State of the Game May 2026

We are kicking off the month of May with a new indie game, Far Far West. Let’s kick it off with the trailer that hooked me immediately.

Far Far West is a co-op looter shooter which is something both hubby and I enjoy playing together. It definitely gives both Helldivers 2 and Borderlands vibes. Playing as robots in a wild west setting is the cherry on top! The game is in early access on Steam, which typically we avoid. I showed the trailer to my hubby to get his opinion, and it was a done deal. We’ve got a couple hours of gameplay under our belts and are loving this early access release. We can’t wait to see what this indie developer has in store for it and seeing that it’s already sold more than 500K copies in early access we know we’ll be playing it for the long haul.

My husband and I met online playing while I was playing Everquest back in late 2000. In the last 25 years we’ve played a lot of MMOs together…

  • Everquest

  • Dark Age of Camelot

  • Star Wars Galaxies

  • World of Warcraft - We played for 18 years before leaving for good.

  • Guild Wars 2

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic

  • Warhammer Online

  • The Elder Scrolls Online

  • Final Fantasy XIV ARR

  • Rift

  • WildStar

  • Guild Wars 2

We returned to Guild Wars 2 after calling it quits with World of Warcraft and we’ve been happy with the change. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t require a monthly subscription. You can play the core game to level 80 (max level) before ever deciding to pay for an expansion. The gear you work so hard for in-game remains relevant when a new expansion drops. That’s one of the things that wore us down with WoW. New expansions meant having to grind for all new gear. That also means there’s no feeling left behind. You can easily move from one expansion to another and complete the main story, achievements and collections at whatever pace you choose. It’s been a game changer for us since we don’t play MMOs as much as we did a decade or so ago.

My main: Lvl 80 Sylvari Scrapper/Mechanist. She’s my go to character and I’ve been playing this build the longest since we returned to GW2 4 years ago.

Housing in GW2. This housing setup comes with the latest expansion “Visions of Eternity.” They had me at beachfront. :D

My lvl 80 Asuran Galeshot. She’s got a bow, 2 axes and pets. I fell in love with this class and have finally gotten around to gearing her up after hitting 80. I’m hoping to play her as my main when the next expansion comes out.

We play a lot of Magic the Gathering and have a regular Commander pod with my nephew and his wife. We’ve been playing together just over four years. I wrote about that in a previous post.

The other game we picked up this month is No Rest for the Wicked.

We love aRPGs and were so excited when this game hit early access. Right now we’re taking a break waiting for the devs to drop 1.0 but who knows when that’s going to happen. We’ll eventually circled back to NRFTW when hubby feels the urge to play again. He’s been playing through his library of single player games he’s collected over the years.

Right now, our list of games to play is pretty large because of these early access releases, new story chapter dropping in Guild Wars 2, and Path of Exile 2 coming in hot with a new update at the end of the month. So many games, not nearly enough time to invest in all of them. All in all, the state of the game is excellent.

Now it’s time to let my hubby know I would like him to build a Golgari and Reanimator decks for me.

Peace,
B
