Oops! My Bad!

Oops! I’m changing the domain name for my site after reading more about wild wisteria. It’s absolutely beautiful, and every year I look forward to watching it bloom behind our home. But apparently this gorgeous, wild flowering vine slowly strangles trees.

After learning that, I decided to rename the site Where Grace Meets Her.

There’s a lesson in this, so bear with me while I try to put it into words…

Let’s call the wild wisteria “sin” for a moment, shall we?

At first glance, it’s beautiful. Attractive. Enticing, even. I love looking at it. Over the years, though, I’ve watched it creep higher and higher through the trees behind our property. Each season it spreads a little farther. My husband has to go behind our fence and cut back the vines that try to wrap themselves around it because, over time, the damage would eventually destroy the fence.

See where I’m going with this?

Sin creeps into our lives in much the same way. If we aren’t firmly grounded in God’s Word and intentionally maintaining a personal relationship with Jesus, sin slowly begins to wrap itself around our hearts, our minds, and our choices until it develops a stranglehold on our lives.

That is exactly where Satan wants us: distracted, entangled, discouraged, and far from the protection and provision of God.

But praise God, that isn’t where the story ends.

There is hope, even when life feels overwhelming. Even when circumstances seem to be choking the joy, peace, and strength out of us. Jesus is still able to cut through the tangled mess we’ve allowed to grow unchecked. His grace still reaches us. His mercy still restores us. And His love is powerful enough to bring life back to the places that feel worn down and strangled by sin, pain, or hardship.

We only need to call upon the name of Jesus.

This world is filled with empty promises. In the end, we cannot take with us anything we’ve earned, bought, or collected when this life is over. But when we surrender our lives to Christ, we gain something eternal …

life with Jesus, our King.

An eternity with no more tears, sorrow, pain, war, or any of the ugliness this broken world carries. Free to finally live the life God intended for us from the very beginning.

So I’ll keep the wisteria at bay from my site, just as I strive to stay centered on Christ, refusing to let sin choke out the light, peace, and love that come only from serving Him.

Maybe that’s why Where Grace Meets Her feels like the right name after all.

Because grace meets us there, right in the middle of the overgrowth.

Peace,
B
